In the footsteps of Galileo ...

HERITAGE AS A STARTING POINT, INFINITY AS INSPIRATION

As the cradle of the Renaissance and a mecca for global fashion, Italy is an immense source of inspiration.

Northern cities such as Pisa, Venice and Florence still breathe Galileo’s presence. Monuments, mausoleums, institutes and homes keep his memory alive.

It was by visiting these historic sites that our collection emerged.

MORE THAN JUST A WATCH

Far from the traditional «tick-tock » , let yourself be carried away by the harmonious symphony of our watchmakers and feel the pulse of your watch through the mechanical heartbeat.

The movement’s internal rotations and vibrations give you the sensation of a real soul on your wrist, bringing to life a fragment of Galileo’s story day after day.

As a worthy heir, the symbols and details inlaid in the heart of the watch deliver unique messages in tribute to the work of Galileo, the brilliant 17th-century Italian scientist and astronomer whose life was punctuated by daring and perseverance.

An inspiring story and a strength of character that can be seen on the dial of our watches. Our wish? Inspire the writing of your own legend… It’s time to explore new horizons!

Galileo, the architect of time

A LITTLE HISTORY...

What would history be without great men to write it? Galileo’s innovative discoveries established him as the engineer of the pendulum clock and the founding father of modern astronomy.

Avant-garde and rich in history, Gentlemaan wanted to capture its sense of exploration and visionary spirit in a unique, poetic timepiece.

MEASURING TIME

At just 19, Galileo invented the simple, regulated measurement of time by pendulum, seizing the opportunity to observe the constant oscillations of the chandeliers in Pisa Cathedral by means of his pulse.

Brilliantly introduced to mathematics, he discovered the law of isochronism of motion, before giving birth to what would become a scientific branch in its own right: Galilean mechanics.

Very busy with his astronomical research, it was only in his old age that he drew up a clock design, but was unable to build it before his death in 1642. It was Christiaan Huygens and Salomon Coster who finally built the first pendulum clock in 1657, based on the work of the Tuscan scientist.

This crucial discovery opened the doors to the modern era of watchmaking, reducing the margin of error from several minutes to a few seconds a day.

A FASCINATING CELESTIAL EPIC

Galileo was responsible for many of the inventions that revolutionized science. The most famous of them all: the telescope.

In the spring of 1609, he perfected the spyglass previously used for navigation, considerably increasing the tool's magnification effect.

In the autumn of the same year, Galileo turned his telescope to the sky for the first time to study moon phases and much more. Since then, we've never stopped learning more about our universe.

Gentlemaan invites you to take a moment to look up and appreciate what makes you feel good. Contemplating the Milky Way can be a source of introspection towards your deepest aspirations.

This watch encourages you to follow your dreams and never give up.

A CONTRARIAN VISION

His stellar observations led him to believe that the Earth revolved around the sun, rather than the other way around, at the risk of isolating himself from the overwhelming majority of the time.

He drew the wrath of the authorities, who censored his writings. Threatened with torture during his trial, he was sentenced to prison before being placed under house arrest, where he took the opportunity to take his works across the border. A remarkable display of self-sacrifice and courage.

His studies shook the world a century later, when James Bradley provided formal proof of the Earth's motion around the Sun.

Great feats throughout history have been the conquest of what seemed unattainable... That's why we have to strive for the impossible!

It's a vision that Gentlemaan appreciates, and one that lies at the very heart of its values. This watch is designed for those who are always one step ahead.
